Giuseppe De Benedittis has been Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Milan since 1984.
He founded and directed the Interdepartmental Center for the Study and Therapy of Pain of the University of Milan from 1980 to 2014, the first multidisciplinary centre to be established in our country.
He is internationally recognized as one of the leading pain therapy experts, in particular in the field of primary chronic headaches, orofacial pain, painful pathologies of the spine (neck pain, low back pain), neuropathic pain (eg, herpes zoster), fibromyalgia and cancer pain.
His long clinical experience and his experimental studies have concerned the measurement of pain, the quality of life, the psychological aspects of chronic pain, the use of innovative techniques in pain control (pharmacological, anaesthetic, psychophysiological) in a rigorously approach Multidisciplinary, which takes into account all the significant components of Chronic Pain.
The professor. De Benedittis was also a pioneer in the use of hypnosis in pain control and other psychiatric and psychosomatic pathologies. He is Vice President of the Italian Society of Hypnosis and Member of the Board of the International Society of Hypnosis.
Pain is defined as “an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage” by the International Association for the Study of Pain.
